Jaycee Creed

That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life;

That the brotherhood of man transcends the sovereignty of nations;

That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise;

That government should be of laws rather than of men;

That earth's great treasure lies in human personality;

And that service to humanity is the best work of life.

Outstanding Young Educator

Recognizing Houston’s Young Educators for 42 Years

Since 1966, the Houston Jaycees have been awarding outstanding volunteerism by an educator. Every year, the Jaycees participate with LyondellBasell, Palais Royal, I.W. Marks, Hannah Fustenberg and many other fine sponsors to help recognize individuals that go above and beyond in their field. Our Outstanding Young Educator Award selection committee is able to review all the Teachers of the Year essays which they submit to be evaluated and learn about other hard working individuals. By participating in this project, our chapter is able to be recognized in front of over 2,000 people as a leader in the Houston community. Members of the selection committee are also able to attend the Teacher Recognition Banquet and see first hand what amazing teachers are recognized at the banquet.

Each member of the selection committee is enlightened by how much work goes into teaching and how many hours and the multiple organizations that teachers are involved with. We become even more motivated to do as much as we can with the time we’ve been given to make our community a better place. This award is one of the few awards given at the recognition banquet which is unannounced ahead of time. The recipient has no idea they have been selected. Because of this sense of surprise, they are usually overwhelmed by the attention and shocked to receive the award. They are deserving individuals who benefit tremendously from such an award.

This project is one in which the Houston Jaycees joins with Houston Independent School District and many other community organizations to recognize a group of individuals who have set the standards in education. Every year the Jaycees name is recognized by thousands of individuals as an organization that stands for leadership and exemplary achievement. We are able to honor an outstanding educator who devotes his or her life to helping others and giving back. By honoring these individuals over the years, we are showing that service to humanity is valued and really is the best work of life.
